Is It OK to Attune Young Children?

It is fairly common for the children of Reiki teachers  and similar backgrounds to receive attunements at a young age.  Sometimes a   child with a health issue or who is particularly sensitive  will get attuned to help with their own treatment. 

 There is not really a minimum age for the attunements  provided the child wants and accepts them  actively. 
The children I have known who received attunement  young all use the Reiki responsibly  and often do a lot of work with animals.  In The San Francisco area  it was fairly common for classmates to seek a quick treatment  from a child who practiced Reiki or another healing modality.  There were a lot of kids who meditated or  practiced crystal healing etc. . so Reiki did not cause the kind of controversy it might elsewhere .

 My experience has been that a child who does not truly  choose to be attuned  cannot be  attuned. Children who want attunements often already have considerable ability they were born with.   Many young children  do choose to be attuned and usually do not have any major detoxification .  
Adolescents  sometimes are already going through too much to deal with.  They may sometimes do better with in person one on one attunements  where there can be ongoing contact with the  Reiki teacher.  Naturally children should not be attuned to Reiki without Parental consent and participation .
