I was told that we should remove all (or as much as possible) jewelery/metal from our bodies, and those of our 'subjects'. Two questions arise:
1. How essential is this?
Usually Not very, to not at all. I was taught that too and originally took care to follow that instruction but a number of sessions with people who were extremely well decorated with non removable jewelry convinced me that as long as I don't catch my hand in trailing chains it usually makes no difference to the client's ability to receive Reiki. You would not want to snag anything on jewelry or clunk the client with your pendant. Unless the jewelry is heavy or fragile or could get tangled in clothes it can be left on . When it is reasonable to do so I do ask people to remove jewelry that might get in the way. I have done a goodly amount of work in booths at shows for seated clients and the jewelry did not interfere with receiving Reiki.
2. Will Reiki pass through metal objects as though they weren't there?
Yes in my experience Reiki does pass through metal objects as though they weren't there.
I once did a treatment on someone wearing a SCA suit of armor, Reiki worked fine.
